Poems

Across the barrier of our years

Across the barrier of our years,
I catch the steel blue of his eyes,
And feel the fire from his soul.
My breath is tangled. I give a laugh,
I lower my lids. I can’t be caught.
For fear he’ll read my every thought.
If I could only turn back in time,
And banish that barrier of our years.

His face is finely chiseled,
His Body tall and lean,
The strength of beauty from within,
Shines bright as the sun at noon.
He stands one with nature,
He moves like an easy desert wind.
If I were only somewhat younger,
There’d be no barrier between our years,
To bar me looking at those steel blue eyes
And share a magic place within,
Where a special thought and feeling lies.
Then barriers between would not survive.

The more we talk and share our mind,
The more we know we’re one in kind,
So now that barrier between our years,
Will slowly fade till it disappears.
And a silent oneness we can’t explain
Decides to call us special friends,
So now I look to those steel blue eyes,
And let him enter my mind and thoughts,
And just be happy to know we’ve met,
And forget that barrier without regret.

My heart is shattered

I feel my heart being ripped apart
Like the cracking of a tree just felled
I feel you cutting through my heart
And harshly ripping it all apart
There is an earthquake in my soul
That shattered that calm sea of trust
And opened the earth beneath my feet
To suck me down the endless abyss

There is no noise, no feeling, or motion
Just the eerie embrace of confusion

Where are the waters I could trust
Or peace of night at each day’s end
Where are the crystal morning skies
Was it all a game of just pretend
Projected in your warm blue eyes
Or yet another taunt of Heaven
Painted over in shades of grey
With one more reality far away
A world I created gone astray.

There is no noise, no feeling or motion
Just the eerie embrace of confusion

Please make the earth stop shaking
And the roar of my mind subside
Please make the sun stop raining
And make those clouds go hide
Just give me back the you I want
And make me feel that peace inside.

Time and age

In the summer of my youth
When a year used to crawl
To the fun of the summers
With bare feet and frolic
And time was a lazy green
With mindless thoughts
And giggles and games.
Till the slow autumn mist
Lowered books on my back
With school as a must
And homework at night
With no fun in sight.

In the winter of my youth
When a year used to crawl
Till the glisten of Christmas
With the laughter and all
The thrill of what presents
Would lie under the tree
And the sleds and our skis
Would rush us again
To the books on our back
And slow months to come
With eyes heavy hooded
With school by the day
And homework at night

Then Spring would awake us
And point to the sky
With days growing longer
Saying summer was nigh
And vacations were coming
With lazy green days
And bare feet and frolic.

Then age took its turn
To speed up the clock
To make every year pass
Much faster than the last

The fall that pushes us
To the frenzy of Christmas
The beauty of Spring
Short as an early bird song
The long lazy days
With a moment of warmth
Till we rush into Fall
And the frenzy of Christmas
Like a sail in wind torn waters
It all passes too fast

While the wheels of our years
Speed us to those long lazy days
And the tick of the clock
Pushes us close
To the last of our years
When we take time to notice
The sunsets and stars
And the sun in the morning
As it rises to greet us and say
Good morning to the twilight
Of all the good years in my life.

The polo player and the horse

They were like one
The horse and the rider
With the mallet and ball,
There was no telling where
One began and the other ended,
As natural as notes are to music,
In sync with each others movements,
They wove graceful figures while
Their speed tore currents through the air.
They belonged to the earth beneath
And the sky that wrapped around them,
With the kind of beauty and unison
That brings man and nature together
The way God intended it.

When words can

When words can’t describe
The turmoil inside
When one’s body aches
For comfort of another
When you long to say
I love you
And the one you miss
Just is not there,
Look up, have faith
Relax your heart and know
God will take care
The Angels are there
And all that we wish for
Shall come to pass.

And when you look back
At all you have done.
You feel it was right,
Yet fear grips your heart,
That maybe it was wrong,
Your being starts to tense
Your spirit starts to sink,
So ease your thoughts
For God will take care,
The Angels are there,
And all that we wish for
Will come through that door.

And when life closes in
Yet there’s no place to run.
You feel like a bird
Trapped in a cage.
You want to call help
But the scream is unheard,
You want to have hope
But the walls are too high,
Look at the beauty around,
Ease your soul and know,
God will take care,
The Angels are there,
And all that we wish for
Will fly through that door.

I can only pace the miles of empty footprints

I can only pace the miles of empty footprints
While the darkness screams with its blackened walls,
I wander outside to find the light of the stars,
But they seem deadened in the pitch of night
I call your name and there is silence
The core of my soul feels broken
the wake of your absence.

You are the night that puts me to rest,
You are the sun that awakens me with a smile
And the reward I wait for at the end of the day
You are the peace that puts the day to rest
And brings me all the things that I love best,
The warmth of your nearness,
The strength of your touch,
The sound of your voice,
And the stories you tell.
The feeling of you next to me
That makes me know that we are a ‘we’.

I can only pace the miles of emptiness
To wait for the togetherness of us,
For sleep is only in the circle of your arms.
So I will wait to run into those arms
And give you all of me in turn.
To shower you with all I have,
The beauty and the love,
The laughter and the brightness
And all that makes your days
Just the way you want to live.
Only then will I put my head to rest.

Sometimes that love we feel
Is heavy as the rain filled clouds,
They rush and clash
With thunderbolts
And shed there weight
With the falling rain,
Till they find their peace
And soon, all silver lined
Are pure and white again.

So now I pray
While you stay away
Those rain filled clouds
That sheds my tears
Will open up and clear away
The darkened thunderbolts
Of your stormy heart
And more than before
Glow with a brand new white
To strengthen our love even more.

Time stands still as I wait for your call

Time stands still as I wait for your call
And time races by when you’re there.
The night casts images of your wonderful face
And the day whispers your name in the air.

How can I tell the time to stand still while you’re near
And race till the next time you call?
How can I change the images to realities
And the whispers to sounds in my ear?

Only time will tell as I hang like a puppet
On the strings of my destiny,
Oh Destiny, tell me when you’ll send word
From my friend.

The room is now empty

The room is now empty,
I stand there alone,
I think of the door,
The door that your opened
The one I kept shut,
The door of my of my heart
That no one could touch.
My head starts to reel,
My mind starts to speak
My knees feel so weak,
My heart’s open to feel.

The room is now empty,
I stand there alone.
The bed that you slept in
Lies barren and bare.
The scent on the sheets,
Now wafts through the air.
What words will describe,
All I now feel;
A beautiful memory,
Of you lying there.

The room is now empty,
I stand there alone.
The image as it curls
Around all my senses,
The touch of you fingers
Left their prints on my skin.
The music of our bodies
The beat of our hearts,
Like a symphony crescendo,
Made two souls as one.

The room is now empty,
I stand there alone.
Was it a dream I had,
Or a reality I face.
Special moments we shared
Like a jewel in life,
To keep and treasure
In a special place
In a box of gold,
And forever safe.

Like the overflow of rain water slowly draining through the pores of the earth

Like the overflow of rain water slowly draining through the pores of the earth
So, my love, are the tears of my longing, one by one, evaporating from my heart
And deeply they will burrow themselves in the archives of my past.
The vicious cuts of your absences slowly heal as time pushes it distance From the last time you held me.
And when the wounds of time are healed,
I know, that once again, the freshness of new beginnings
Will shed a warm new sunshine in my soul.

What is time

What is time
But a series of passing moments
Thoughts of that which might be.
Is it a longing unravelled
By a scattered body of time
Like shells on an ebbing tide
That can be rolled back
As the moon pulls them
To the shores of one’s hope.

What is time
But a series of floating images.
Like pictures on a gallery wall
That hang playfully with laughter
And a string of never ending exchanges
With quiet moments of understanding
The foreplay of a two souls,
Drawn by another’s presence.

What is time
But the thrill of anticipation
Where patience seems out of reach
And the wait plays like butterflies
Exhausting the beauty of our imagination
It is what tells us inside
That all is worth the wait
Of inexhaustible time.

Deftly I tread on lands unknown

Deftly I tread on lands unknown
New life, new love, new home
I discover, I fall, I weep, I learn.
The trials of a union still fresh
With uncovered mystery
Of two groping to understand,
To love with unblemished unity.

Still I tread on lands unknown
I discover, I fall, I weep, I learn.
Like a tree lined stream
My new life is yet to be discovered,
I make my way through trees
Which keep the light from burning my eyes
And mark the way should I slip and fall.

And now I put my feet in the gentle waters
Which caress my ankles and tickle my toes
Like the fresh tease of a playful lover.

And then I feel the harshness of a rock
Which tricks my footing and makes me slip.
I pick myself up and keep on moving,
The waters first calm and then rushing
Which push me into a punishing depth.
I discover, I fall, I weep I learn.
And so the path of a lovers trial
The mystery of two entwined souls,
Searching, testing, uncovering
As they wind their way hand in hand
To the beauty of peaceful pastures
And that final destination of mutual love.

All That You Wish For

When words can’t describe
The turmoil inside
When one’s body aches
For the comfort of another
When you long to say
I love you
And the one you need
Just is not there
Look up, have faith
Relax your heart and know
God will take care
The Angels are there
And all that you wish for
Will come to pass.

And when you look back
At all you have done
You feel it was right,
Yet fear grips your heart,
That maybe it was wrong,
Your being starts to tense
Your spirit starts to sink,
Relax your thoughts
For God will take care,
You know the Angels are there,
And all that you wish for
Will come through the door

And when life closes in
Yet there’s no place to run.
You feel like a bird
Trapped in a cage.
You want to call help
But the walls are too high,
Look at the beauty,
Relax your soul and know,
That God will take care,
The Angeles are there,
And all that you wish for
Will come through the door

So now I will continue
To the new pastures waiting,
The ones with the path
All laid with grass,
Untouched and soft,
So it is easy to run
From that soft cloud of memories
On that old road of pasts,
The ones that I turn from,
With a smile in my heart,
To take that new path
I’ll say to myself,
They are memories to cherish,
The ones of the past,
That now I’ll put to rest
Because God will take care
The Angels are there
And all that I wish for
Will now come to pass

The wallpaper of my life

The wallpaper of my life has been ripped from my heart,
Oblivious to its colors, still vibrant in my mind,
The wall it once adorned has broken with time
Though my spirit lies broken, my body is strong,
I will rebuild that wall now wretched and torn.
And with each stone of my emotions
That it takes to rebuild, I’ll place a new foothold
And stand there and smile,
To remember the old
And welcome the new.
